November 6th 2009 - NatRoad Welcomes ATC Decision on Single National Regulator for Heavy Vehicles

The establishment of the Single National Regulator for Heavy Vehicles in Queensland has been welcomed by the National Road Transport Operators Association (NatRoad).

The confirmation of Queensland as the host state for the regulator was announced after the meeting of Australian Transport Council (comprising of the Federal, State, and Territory Transport Ministers) today.

“Queensland has a strong track record in taking an innovative and reformist approach to the heavy vehicle sector,” NatRoad President, Rob McIntosh, said after the meeting.

Whilst decisions regarding the Single National Regulator will be made by the ATC as a whole, Mr McIntosh said NatRoad welcomed the leadership and positive influence Queensland has provided in national heavy vehicle policy.

“We congratulate the Australian Transport Council on this pivotal step forward, and look forward to the smooth and rapid implementation of this important reform.
